I've been interested in this phenomena for awhile. The recent cases of children raised by dogs in parts of Eastern Europe, children from the mountains left to fend for themselves, children that are neglected and develop no social skills and lack the ability to learn.
I came across this today and was immediately horrified and yet interested. How is this child going to mature, grow up? What will she be like in 20 years?
The cases of children with severe neglect from the 1960-70's never seem to make a full "recovery" and end up in psychiatric wards and nursing homes.
It also disturbs me that developed nations feel the need to meddle in the affairs of other countries, when we have problems in our own backyard.

I've seen bits and pieces of it.
I don't understand how a person could neglect their children (or pets but that's a whole other can of worms). There is no excuse, none. If you can't take care of your children, admit it and get help. Danielle's mother said "I did the best I can." I find that hard to believe.
If I remember, her mother had an IQ of 70. I'm not sure what that means in terms of taking care of yourself plus a child. But they did say that due to her IQ, she only cares about herself-that may be all she can handle.
I'm sure there are similar cases in cities all over and we just don't know. What about people living in big apartment buildings in big cities? Same thing could be happening and you'd never know. When people know what they are doing is wrong on some level, they tend to isolate themselves (and those around them) even more.
Lyokha, Kaluga, Central Russia (December 2007). He had been living with a pack of wolves, had typical wolflike behavior and reactions. He was unable to speak any human language. Taken to a Moscow hospital, he received some medical treatment, a shower and nailtrim and several meals before escaping from the building. He is believed to still be in the wild.

Holy Christ that is some fucked up shit. I think I could have vomited from reading that story. I had flash backs to my crazy mom. At least I was potty trained. Too, too sad.
oh god, "she had thousands of roach bites". i can't even look at a roach without freaking out. it's so weird that she can't talk and they aren't sure she'll learn.
it's so strange listening to her mom talk like she didn't do anything wrong.. "den they said she was dirty, well i know she wasn't dirty".

I honestly almost cried reading about the amazing people that took her in. Fucked up as her mother and her former situation was, she got a home with people who really love her and care for her like their own child despite the fact that she couldn't even function at the level of a normal infant when they adopted her.

Did anyone here about the Austrian man who was fucking his daughter, and kept her down in his cellar with the 6 children she birthed from him? The children had never seen the light of day...

The mother really seemed to be in some serious denial about the reality of the situation..I liked how she said, "my son wasn't potty trained until he was four...and I started to get a little worried because she was six and still not potty trained!"
What a fuck
