I am no fan of Animal Collective, or anyone else in your top 5. Truth be told, other than Embryonic and the new Mastodon record, I'm not sure that I've bought any new music this year. I've focused on the past.

I think you might like the Dirty Projectors album quite a bit. It's one of the freshest "indie" records (I put the word in quotes because it seems to carry less meaning with each passing year) I've heard in a while.

Vernon Hick Top Ten:

1. Birth of my son, Dylan Harrison Holmes. He has made my life complete. I didn't know that i was able to love someone this much!

2. Falling deeper in love with my soulmate, Allison. Being a daddy to her mommy...

3. Bush out, Obama in. "Nuff said there!

4. Meeting Booker T. Jones, Paul Weller, Ralph Stanley, George Jones and Jerry Jeff Walker this year. All nice fellas!

5. Surviving the financial shitstorm that was 2009. Being in construction AND the film industry = double bummer.

5. Producing and airing 50+ episodes of "Psychedelic Solution" on internet radio station Compound Radio. Had a blast connecting with psych fans from all over the world and got Steven Drozd to compose and perform the theme song for the show!

6. Clearing out a storage unit with 20+ years of "packratism" in it. Freedom! There was so much shit in there! Real social anthropology going on. Lots of rare Flaming Lips stuff in there including Michael Ivens' LAST HAIRDO! (no lie!) and a whole grocery bag of pink dreadlocks courtesy of Wayne Coyne, circa 1992?

7. Got to simplify my life a bit, reeled back on some of the more unnecessary stuff...

8. "Old Blue", my beat-to-shit powder blue Ford F150 pick-up survived another year! Good work girl!

9. *on hold for next two months*

10. *on hold for next two months*

(This list is in no particular order once you get past the first three...)

Hey, I remember that truck! One of the best times I've ever had riding in any truck.

Glad to see you around, sir, and good to hear all is well with la familia.
