Guy/Gal With A Headache |
Just bottled around 30 dark ales, my first batch of brew! I was also given a 6.5 gallon glass carboy and I couldn't be happier about it!
I've been drinking Milk Stout from Duck Rabbit Brewery (based in Farmville, NC). It is one of my absolute favorites. Delicious! |

Glass is so nice. So easy to clean, too. I just fill mine with hot water, add a scoop of oxyclean free (the free is important) and let it sit for an hour. Let me know how it turns out. |

I picked up some Guinness on a whim tonight. I havent had it in years, but I got this odd craving for it. Picked up a sixer of bottles (which use the "rocket widget" to create foam)...quite enjoying it at the moment. Although a fresh pint from the tap would be ideal. But in a pinch, whats the consensus...are bottles or cans better for Guinness?

Thanks Dave! We'll see what happens! So Oxyclean Free is the cleaner you always use? Have you tried any of the other sanitizers? I just used a little bit of bleach and rinsed very well, but I'd like to avoid this in the future. Star-san is one that I had heard a lot about, as well as an iodine-based cleaner. A couple of the powdered ones that they had in the store (like Beer-brite) looked questionable.

I use oxyclean free as a CLEANER only. I use starsan as a sanitizer. one step is also ok, but I'd totally kick down for the starsan. DON'T FEAR THE FOAM!
clean, rinse, rinse again, sanitize. That's how I do carboys, bottles, and kegs. Matt, I like Guinness from time to time. On tap is nice, but sometimes you get someone who really doesn't know how to pour it. Cans with widgets are my fave, but that's just me. |

Guinness is my drink of choice, and cans w/widgets is by far the best way to go if your not in a decent bar with clean taps and a knowledgeable bartender. me thinks! |

I do have a rye IPA on tap at home that I enjoy. Saturday, I took part in a handful of Belgians. Tripels, mainly. I like them, but not enough to brew 5 gallons of them. |

I snuck a sample of the bottled Hop Zombie I brewed a couple months back. It was still pretty flat, but the flavor and aroma were mind boggling.
Best beer I've brewed yet. No doubt. Bummer that I only have a case of it. |
