Paranormal Activity

Good, but no Blair Witch (which, thinking about it, is probably too similar to), and the guy got a bit annoying towards the end with the useless macho bollocks . . .

(and no scene with guy flying towards the camera from the trailer!)

Smart People.

What a steaming pile of poo.

I hate that Juno girl. Smug Canadian. And Sarah Jessica Parker. You were cute on Square Pegs, hon, but now you're just fugly.

Every 2 minutes, the sappy acoustic guitar score kicked in, or some whiny Carole King soundin' biatch was singin'! BLURG!

The wife wanted to see it, because her mother said it was good. WRONG.

Miller's Crossing (1990): A wonderful film that becomes only more wonderful on repeated viewings. It's everything that a Coens' gangster movie should be, with some of the best dialogue of their career.

Phantom of the Opera (1925): Seeing this in a 150-year-old chapel with live organ (and, on occasion, gong) accompaniment was a fantastic experience. Such a creepy film; the organ (and unnerving use of technicolor) prevented certain scenes from flirting with the comical.

Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired (2008): Very good (and, as of last month, outdated) documentary on the Polanski trial (or lack thereof). The title comes from the comment that Polanski is wanted in America yet desired in France. The focus on the judge's corruption is controversial, of course, almost threatening to take attention away from the reality of Polanski's crime.

Me and the roommate got drunk last night and then at midnight it became clear it was time to start eating junk food (and drink some more) and to watch a movie. We decided to watch Mulholland Drive. She had only seen it once and said she didn't get it and she wrote down the hints or whatever for it, to make note of them during the movie. Anyway, i think she was a little too drunk to follow her list. I talked her through it instead and then as the credits started to roll, she said "oh it wasn't a complicated movie at all, i just needed you to explain it". And i was like yeahhhh

Zombieland

Found it frustratingly shit, though my mates loved it - the Scrubs style comedy just doesn't do it for me, with the sappy narration and 'comedy' cutaways - longed for the Brit-wit of Shaun of the Dead and Dead Set - fucking waste of Bill Murray too . . .

I dont think the casting in this movie could have been improved one iota. Simply perfect.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

It's got everything you've ever wanted in a movie...a woman...and a casserole.

The greatest double feature of all time!

The Hangover.

Good enough, had some genuinely funny bits. Although the music was rubbish. Except for the meat spin song, that one is fail proof.

I'd say don't bother, Jack...your time can be better spent doing just about anything else.

Yeah, I figured this out on the internets - turns out the version I saw was the one shown at the initial campus screenings before it was changed for the wider release (under the advice of Steven Spielberg apparently!).

[SPOILER I SUPPOSE IF YOU SEE THE EARLY VERSION]

The version I saw had the woman standing over the guy for 3 hours, she goes downstairs and screams - guy goes running downstairs and you hear a scuffle - gal comes back upstairs holding a knife all bloody and sits on the bedroom floor, rocking back and forth - fastforwards through her sat there rocking all through the next day till we hear her friend arrive when it gets dark again - hear her scream (assuming she found the guys dead body) and leave the house - then a bit later we hear cops arrive and search the house - we see the attic light turn on and off (suggesting the demon has left the gals body) - she gets up still holding the knife and walks towards the cops all confused - the attic door slams shut, making everyone jump... and one of the cops guns the girl down dead! THE END . . .
