Fuck! After Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, and Persona they're playing Hour of the Wolf! I'm going to be up all night!

No it was not. For Raimi to return to the fun-horror genre, I expected much MORE than what I got. It is a throwback, sure, but not necessarily a well-done throwback. Justin long is abysmal in it. Alison Lohman is annoying as all get-out. The Indian medium dude was awful. The best actor in the entire movie is the old gypsy lady, by a MILE. There is no one NEARLY as charming as Bruce Campbell anywhere near the screen in this pic. The humour was meh, at best, except for the few grossouts involving the old lady. No spoilers here, but the ending was BRUTAL as in brutal BAD not BRUTAL awesome. Aside from some good fights with the old lady and some pretty good shocking jump (halfway) out of your seat part, the whole movie was quite weak and in my honest opinion, only Raimi FANS will get a (relatively small) kick out of it.

To answer Bert, as always, the critics were over the top in that they called it an exhilirating thrill ride, the best horro picture in years, all the usual stuff. It really ends up reading like a bunch of nerds with obvious love for Raimi fawning over the closest thing he has made to a good scary flick in a LOOOOONGG time.

Bah. You're a silly goose.

Berlin Alexanderplatz

It took me a whole week to swallow it all, but it was worth it. That was quite an adventure.

Man, I've been eyeing that one for a while now, but I know I probably shouldn't make it my first Fassbinder.

No. Starting with Fear Eats the Soul is probably wiser.
I think my first Fassbinder was The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant and it also was a good starting point.

Wild Strawberries

One of those films that I appreciate more than I actually enjoy, I cannot deny that it is an exceptional film. This is one I'd like to revisit every few years to see if my reaction to it has changed with age. Great acting all around. Every time I've seen it, though, the car crash sequence pulls me out of the film. It's so damn clumsy. Bergman never could direct action. It just wasn't his thing. He could make two people talking about life for thirty minutes absolutely rivetting, but give him a sequence that requires quick cutting and action, and he's out at sea. Small quibble, mostly just an observation.

Just watched Moznosti Dialogu (Dimensions of Dialogue), a short film in 3 segments by Czech filmmaker Jan Svankajer. I'd wanted to watch Alice, his interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, but I decided to watch this first since it's only 10 minutes and could be found online- fantastic piece of realism with incredible claymation and stop motion work. Definitely have to check out more of his stuff.

Noam Chomsky: Rebel Without a Pause
Decent enough overview of the man and his work, but at only 73 minutes long, I'd have really rather just watched any given one of his lectures.

Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room
My, what an unwaveringly depressing look at the depths of corporate greed, particularly the glee with which Enron traders seemed to randomly shut off electricity to entire sections of California just to squeeze out higher returns for themselves.

Jaws 3-D
Just as awful as I'd remembered (although, still, somehow not as bad as the fourth film)... although, beyond the general shittiness of the film, now I can mock it for it's absolute assault on real-world geography. Orlando is 50 miles in land, children, and even if it were on the Atlantic, the sun would never set over the ocean there.

Right... and that's an objective fact based on the 3 or 4 movies of him you've seen... Roll Eyes

While not Lethal Weapon, The Seventh Seal (IMO) belies your statement.

Remake or the original? I found the original to be pretty much absolutely unwatchable from start to finish.

Not to mention that the coastal waters are warm and Great Whites generally don't go anywhere near warm water.
