Hello there.
I don't know if the situation has changed any but it all really depends on how much money you have. I lived in Brixton South London for 6 years after finishing college, some college friends and I set up base there cos it was all we could afford. Having said that I really enjoyed it, I still have friends there now and am looking to move back. If you moved to Camden you'd be forever dodging Amy and Peaches and all the other celebrity smack heeds. |

I live in Euston, just south of Camden.
It really does depend on how much money you have. The prices for renting are going up all the time. You'd be looking at at least £300 per week for a one bedroom flat in the area. The east will probably be cheaper, I have no idea. But in the course of looking I have seen about 90% of flats that are complete dives. |

South West London! I live between Putney and Wimbledon, very nice area. Prices are quite differing depending on the exact area. I used to live further down in Wandsworth (proper) and have a soft spot for that area too. Lots of green around here which I like.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll be on 25 or 27 an hour but i'm sure the tax man will take most of this. So about 250 or 300 a week would be ok for renting. I'm going over first and then boyfriend and pets will follow a few weeks later.
Just worried about not knowing the really dodgy parts and being on crime watch. |

Wish I knew what to say. The safest/nicest areas are waaay out of the price range of ordinary mortals. London is too fucking BIG. Someone living south-west of the city is in another world to someone living north-east. I used to live around Stratford/Leytonstone/Walthamstow, and being that far out I kind of just lived in my little area & hardly ever went into the centre.
My advice? Don't move there. It's too fucking noisy and dangerous. I know that's not going to put you off for one second, so my secondary advice would be MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD FRIEND WITH YOU WHO YOU CAN TRUST. That would make a huge difference anywhere, but especially in London. The other thing is, don't forget you need to build up a bit of local knowledge to survive and stay safe. |

Minty have you had bad experiences?

Stratford and Leytonstone have suffered from years of under investment and are a bit run down, and suffer from the attendant problems. But the 2012 Olympics means alot of redevelopment and money pouring in.
I'd say that Tufnel Park is a DANGEROUS SHITHOLE and should be avoided if possible. But on that money you should be able to find something quite nice, especially if Boyf is going assist with the rent. |

Yeah you are totally right. Should have nothing to worry about. Did you enjoy your time in London. I've only ever seen it from a tourist's point of view.

Brixton is great, Goldie nearly killed me with his shiny new BMW as I waltzed accross Acre Lane.
The Ritzy cinema is the largest independant cinema in europe (allegedly), and the lido is lovely in the summer. Never saw a knife or a gun there in 3 years. |

Thats proper Essix!!
Like Minty says, if you live that far out, you'll have a real trek into town and possibly won't be bothered. I used to work in Hampton, which is way out near Richmond, I didn't want to live that far out so commuted. Someone has some thinking to do, good luck |
