I don't want to have to wait til December to be introduced to some great stuff that I should have been listening to all year. It's hard to keep up though.

My favourites after the first seven months are

Beach House - Devotion
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Deerhunter - Microcastle (leak)
Sigur Rós - Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust
Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks - Real Emotional Trash
Stereolab - Chemical Chords (a real grower)
Why? - Alopecia
Silver Jews - Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea

What have all you lot been absorbing in '08?

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
Dr. Dog - Fate
Delta Spirit - Ode to Sunshine

I like the new Beck album, but I think it is kind of weak compared to the last two releases by him.

There's never a bad year for music. It really irks me when people say this. Keep looking, you'll find something.

Im not saying it was a bad year. I just havent come across as much that has "hit" me this time around. Last year had a ton of albums that listened to virtually non-stop for months on end and which I consider to be masterpieces..Stars of the Lid, LCD Soundsystem, Radiohead, Panda Bear, Battles, The National. Maybe I really havent looked hard enough this year..but I do feel like Ive exerted a decent amount of effort trying to turn some new great stuff up without a lot of luck. Maybe the second half will come through big, who knows.
