Does anyone else get pissed off when they buy old backissues and you pay, say, $3 when the cover clearly states that it should only cost ten cents?

The Bat Board

Pretty cool.

Someone should put Hugo Strange to good use.

Are you being sarcastic, Fallon? Because I most definitely am not.

Thank you, you are too. I bought The Red Balloon today because I saw you mention it on the Up thread. It's the first time I ever saw that movie and I loved it.

That's one of those movies that is so wonderful and perfect, and yet it will always be underrated for the most superficial of reasons: it's a short film, it's a fable, and it's a "children's movie". In my book, that doesn't diminish it at all. If anything else, it just shows how universal the story is (and I've heard so many theories on the hidden meanings of the film it'd make your head spin), and how perfect.

Only short film, ever, to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Screenplay. And there isn't a word of dialogue.

What's up with that raccoon picture, bear?

This morning I watched a Batman episode that had Dr. Hugo Strange. It was neat because he tried to sell Bruce's identity to the highest bidder.

It had me laughing at how the balloon teased the kid and I loved how they constantly got away from the bullies. Is White Mange as good as The Red Balloon? I kind of want to pick that one up next time I am at the store.

I haven't actually seen White Mane.

I love short films. You should see La Jetee by the director Chris Marker, Saul. It's sort of like a movie comic book, anyway. Only 27 minutes long, and - except for one shot - is entirely comprised of still images and narration. It's amazing.

He tries to do that in Strange Apparitions too.

Also, i guess the raccoon is a bit of a mistery.

I will look for it, the still images thing sounds interesting.

I liked how the kid didn't have a name but you still fall in love with the character. Just like the gal and the guy from Once.

The cartoon got the Dr. Hugo Strange story from there then.

That Peyton Riley gal next to Hugo is a tragic figure. I should have known she wasn't dead.

The Batman Alive? one-shot was a nice little epilogue to "Battle for the Cowl".

The Last Days of Animal Man #1 was pretty enjoyable. It seems to me like first issues tend to just inform us of what we already know, obviously they set up the scene but I always wish they'd grab me more then they do.

Still have yet to read the new Green Lantern and Justice Society of America books. Saving the best for last.

That almost makes me want to read Spiderman. Almost.

In related Joe Kelly news, I think it's already been said but I Kill Giants is out in trade now.

Im about a third into 'Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth' by Chris Ware. Its quite odd, like a slow depressing indie film in a comic book form. Im quite enjoying it though.
