The question is will The Flaming Lips make another movie? Hmmm. Hints have been made. I'm guessing yes. Guess we'll see.

After watching Christmas On Mars, and Fearless Freaks, i find that the lips make docs&movies even more creative than any band has ever done.

I agree, but have you seen Daft Punk's Electroma?

I could see how one might be bored, and it's too bad.

I think Electroma was one of the better movies I have ever seen, let alone a band specific movie.

The next one should be claymation.

I read about it on Wikipedia and it seemed cool but interstella 5555 is the only movie by Daft Punk I really seem to enjoy, maybe because it just music/music videos.

Electroma is certainly not going to satisfy anyone's musical cravings.

It's more of a movie lover's movie, that's for sure.

I saw Electroma, but it was boring. I'm a big Daft Punk fan, but it dragged on and on in silence for a majority of the film. I liked the movie, but I wouldn't waste the time owning it. Unlike Interstella 5555.
That's a great dvd.

I too thoroughly love 2001. It's an amazing movie. But Electroma was weak. Robots wanting to feel, it's been done. I liked it, but it's been done.

that's funny. I was very moved by Electroma and for some reason I have a hard time believing that other like minded Lips fans would not appreciate it as well (obviously our love for the lips doesnt mean we all have the same taste in anything else) Smile

I find electroma more moving than 2001. It was full of visual candy, breathtaking scenes like the reconstruction room and the robot flambe left me smiling about how great our world is. And of course the landscapes are nice, but I can see how that would start to drag on (but yet still extremely poignant that here is all this beauty around them, yet neither is capabale of appreciating it).

I also feel like the interpretive apsects of electroma are much more attainable, even wonderfully simple (where as there are parts of 2001 that I will never fully understand the meaning behind). This movie is full of emotion (strange for a robot movie), yet there is not a word of dialouge.

Can you name me a robot/who am I? movie that you like better? What other sci/fi"ish" movies do you like? Not going to keep comparing Electroma, but just interested myself, as a fan.

I've never seen Electroma (I guess I need to?), but I can at least name a couple of robot/who am I?-type films. "A.I.", for one (though I still think it's a travesty what Spielberg did to Kubrick's vision), and "Wall-E" for another (a delightful Pixar film I just saw recently with my daughter). I'm sure there's a lot more. Terminator? Alien (remember the wicked cybernetic intelligence scenes in that one?)?

totally agree on AI. Speilberg needs to focus on feel good popcorn movies instead of trashing on someone elses emotionally deep work.

2nd Wall-E recommendation... guess I need to queue this one up.

Terminator and Alien? Hrmmm. Fantastic movies of course. But they are more of an action movie with a sci fi wrapper. Doesn't speak much to the human experience for me.

Queue up Electroma and let me know what you think. Advanced warning... those with short attentions or are generally anxious may want to be "relaxed" first. Smile

I never intended to cause debate.
But movies in said category are:
"Blade Runner" (or the book Do Robots Dream Of Electric Sleep).
"Metropolis".
"2001: A Space Odyssey."
"Silent Running"
"Short Circut"
"Disney's 'The Black Hole' "
"RoboCob" (maybe, it's been awhile since i've seen it).
"I, Robot". (it's awful though)
There are probably a dozen episodes of Star Trek that use that theme.
That theme comes up in plenty of episodes of Futurama.
Wayne sings about such things in "Unit 3000-21 etc.".
Battlestar Galactica

And I did like Electroma, but I wouldn't pay to own it. And I wouldn't say it's Daft Punk's best effort. I guessed what was going to happen, and the end was mild. It's cool, but it's been done.

it'd be cool if waners, having seen that wayne can go off and make a movie with a budget made out of string, threw the whole movie dept of the company at the band and they made some sort of beatlesque/monkees doing 'head' technicolour children's freakout extravaganza...but who knows if itll happen?
