They definitely should! I really don't understand why they're not showing this in more venues. It's almost like they're just going to screen it in, what, four places, and then it's straight to DVD? Confused

I watched a large crew set up the movie tent (probably rented) at Wakarusa (whose organizers agreed to make room for this odd event). It was clearly a lot of work, a lot of bulky equipment, a ticket booth setup and to man, a light and sound system to manage, power generator, extra truck to rent and haul it all in, benches... all at no charge to the fans. Wayne even stuck around through the early morning hours to welcome everyone to the show (and probably to make sure things were running well).

I'm guessing that Wayne would want to share his movie with the entire world, known universe, and unknown universe. I'm guessing there are many logistical difficulties to overcome and obviously there is not a lack of desire.

I watched 'em set up in OKC. There's definitely a lot to it. That said, there's more than one way to distribute a film.

But then, who am I? Nobody.

Like get a third party involved who will want to charge at the door, or give cancer to children?

hmmm, maybe I should call my local independant art house group and see if they could arrange some screenings?

They should project the film onto the Houses of Parliament. Cool

Thats just the point. It would have been real easy for wayne to bring someone in to manage the whole deal, release it nationwide in indie houses or whatever, then split the cash. But obviously, that was never the intent. It's his art work, he has ultimate control over what he wants to do with it- apparently he didn't feel like sitting around a board room with a bunch of cool hipsters and hot college grads talking about pie charts and profit margins. Are we really debating this, or am I just rambling because I'm bored?

Tom Petty was in KC last night... cheap seats were $110. What a no love-douche fest that must have been.

Riiiiight, but the end result of all this good-natured tomfoolery - at least I should say it's starting to look like - is going to be what amounts to essentially a straight-to-DVD release, no? I mean, four screenings? Four screenings!!!?? 'Bit of a let down for the fans if that does turn out to be the case, eh? Oh well, at least I got to see it....

Confused

hmmm... where it was shown as a part of a festival I considered the price of admission to the movie to be included in my festival ticket, the same way I paid to see all the other acts.

That said I fully appreciate the home made way it's been shown so far, I just think that has more to do with controling every aspect of the experience than it does with money or ...board rooms...? I think eventually it will be shown other ways, including at my personal drive-in on the garage door.

That's true I suppose. I'm very satisfied i got to see it, and I guess I'm not sensitive to the others that didn't/won't get a chance to see it.

On the other hand, the lips didn't have to do any of the tent screenings and simply have gone directly to the $24.99 route.

I'm extremely thankful for my experience with the movie... a very unique and fulfilling event- all for doing nothing more than being addicted to a wonderful band. I'm not going to complain about shit for what they haven't provided.

Now compare that to the $110 butt fuck experience of the Tom Petty Letdown Tour.

Agreed. And if a third party distributor got involved with it, I'm not so sure you would have been handed a free ticket... unless maybe you wanted to forfiet your personal info to a cancer peddler.

Anyhooo... where can I sign up for a camping spot?
