Guy/Gal With A Headache |
Just wanted to add that after seeing it first in the theatre and now at home, I prefer it on the small screen. Seeing it on a smaller scale makes the B-movie elements come out more, like it actually could be one of the late night movies that inspired it.

Saw the movie again last night... we keep running into fellow fans that haven't seen it yet.
The more times I see the movie, the more I like it. Unfortunately, I don't think this movie plays well the first time or two a person sees it. Yeah, I loved it and all, but it is simply hard to watch and uncomfortable at times. The humor and the wonderful things happening kind of get muddled with the oddity. Now after watching a few times, the pace seems quicker to me, and the great things about the movie are starting to surface and become more evident to me. |

I may be a dumb ozi, but, politics aside, it cost me, for Xmas on mars CD & DVD $15aud....1AUD=.60USD = I paid 15AUD = $9USD who is getting ripped off here??? we cant see it on tv cause we dont get cable. unless we pay heaps, which i cant afford to do. anyway I'm watching Letterman right now so I guess I pay one way or another
Letterman sucks, but it is the best thing we get at 1 am. |

Wait, you're complaining about paying $9.00 for a DVD/CD combo? |

I've just finished watching CoM for the first time and I have to admit I'm completely shocked as to how much I enjoyed it. I was expecting a fairly sub-par, cheap and even an unwatchable movie, though the final result was much better than that.
What I enjoyed:
The backing performances of Adam Goldberg (though expected), but also, if I am correct, the non-actor, Mark DeGraffenried. He was superb in my opinion. The interesting and diverse themes that the film covered: The idea of being trapped in a confine space, the obvious christmas message, the process of losing your mind, etc. were all extremely well presented and did make me as a consumer think, which is more than can be said for the majority of films. The camerawork. Not always conventional, and sometimes annoying, but once again it worked in the film's context. The score. Fitted the film, particularly in the climax, though I can't see myself listening to it much as an individual piece of work. I'll probably add to this list as I watch the film several more times - and believe me, this will happen - but for now... great film! |

Without trying to be argumentative about your opinion, have you tried listening through the soundtrack yet? For me, it does a lovely job of telling it's own story and stood alone very well. Initially I was suprised how strong it was too. |

Agreed. I initially wasn't interested in listening to the soundtrack at all. But I've found that it comes up in our rotation quite a bit and it is actually a pleasure to listen to.

I like to listen to the soundtrack at night. It helps me get relaxed. And it makes me smile.

That's no problem: Debate, after all, is great. I haven't listened to it yet - I probably should've made that more clear - and you may be right in that I find it to be a good piece of individual work! |

That seems to be our problem too...well, i don't see it as a problem, just their loss. I showed it to a group of folks, about 10 i say...they didn't care for it, barely watched it, ect...and they all "love" the lips. Oh well...can't fucking please everyone. |

I was dumbstruck in that tent man, with the sound, the beer, all the pot, the people...my jaw was on the floor the entire time, it was really wonderful, possibly my favorite Lips experience ever yet/ever.

I concur. Nothing will beat the Tent. |

I agree with you. However, I saw it in the tent, then in a theater, and both times the crowd was relatively quiet. I found enough amazing things the first time I saw it that I knew I wanted to understand it more (I'm also a huge fan of sci-fi and especially when it deals with the human experience). I couldn't have asked for a movie more suited to my likes (well, how about more robots and laser guns? Also, retro campy sci-fi always has a hysterical women getting slapped... neither are very appropriate for CoM) As for the average viewer/lips fan, I don't think there is enough for people to grab on to. It's too bad because, like I said, after a couple of viewings, there are a number of great things that begin to surface. |

I really liked it and have seen it like 3 times now since watching it last weekend. I really liked the part the when Steven was asking for Ed15's santa suit and was wondering if this part of the acting or was he really forgetting his lines, ha but I enjoyed it.

So, are you saying CoM is like the Napoleon Dynamite of sci-fi films? I saw it in Minneapolis in November and I can't say I loved it or hated it. I thought it was interesting, though, and I had some colorful and weird dreams that night. I would watch it again, though. It seems like it may take a few viewings for some things to sink in. |

Big 'Ol Bug![]() |
Exactly. After my third viewing, the pace really seemed to pick up and I was able to start identifying more humor, plot, back story, etc. Also helpful to watch with different friends, because everyone sees things differently. |
