That's the best news I've heard since I found out I could see it at 10KLF. I have to see it again soon.

I'm really disappointed. I thought Christmas on Mars' release would be filled with tours and many-a-show, but it seems like it will be quite a low-key event. Which so isn't the Flaming Lips.

Gee, I guess there's still time. I'm just not holding my breath right now.

That trailer includes the best line in the movie. You've pretty much seen it now...

I think that the new trailer represents that fact that the film is an experience, not a narrative... therefore knowing the plot will not prepare you for the fun and freakiness.

I think the secretive festival openings, with sweet tickets and pop corn boxes, played in a custom built tent with an insane soundsystem... personally introduced by the film maker/star/rock star... I thought all that was pretty cool. Maybe a little low key, as in no grand Hollywood opening... but I am glad to have seen it at Sasquatch with a hand full of hardcore fans and Wayne. I feel like it was a very Flaming opening...

No complaints.... looking forward to the DVD.

That's easy for you to say as you've seen it. Now imagine if you hadn't and it's been out for a few months now and you have no hope of seeing it prior to a DVD release and maybe you could understand how the other 95% of their fans feel about it. We're talking about a really low number of people who've seen it. Even given the tent set up I think two or three times as many people could have fit at the tent screenings (Granted not all of those people would have been in the very center of the sound field)

I think it all just worked out to be odd timing.

Yea it is kind of lame that it's in such a limited showing, but at least they finally released it I guess.

Exactly. Fans from outside of the U.S. and Canada (and even fans who do live inside the U.S. and Canada but could not feasibly get to the show) have had little to no chance of seeing it.

Fair enough, the shows thus far have seemed to be excellent for those able to attend, but I think I'm right in saying that most people expected a mass tour with some sort of 'Christmas on Mars' theme. At the present time, it seems unlikely.

Please, don't get me wrong. I'd love for all of us to be in one big happy tent together watching CoM. I want you all to see it and love it. And discuss it...

At Sasquatch Wayne seemed to have planned for three screenings and only two actually happened. The organizers of the festival didn't seem to be on the same page as the band. So, I guess in that sense I do agree that if the Lips/Warner had been a little more on the ball, there could have been an extra 100 viewers at that festival. If they had organized it better CoM could have made it out to every festival the Lips have done this summer...

I think that with all the projects the band takes on sometimes they are lucky to get as much up and running as they do. Their stage set-up and show is obviously quite a handfull compared to a typical touring act... every now and then it is twice as crazy with a UFO show. The crew who sets up the tent is the same crew who sets up the stage, so they would have to double the crew to get the stage and CoM set-up at the same time. Maybe another Kraft commercial would have made it all possible?

I guess since I had virtually no expectations for the premiere, my expectations were exceeded...

and at 10KLF, the band left Friday, but kept the movie there for a Sat. midnight showing, 3 of the crew were there running it

I feel extremely fucking fortunate, and I do feel for the rest of you. Don't give up yet. They might still find a way for more tent showings.

I've got a theatre room. Projector onto a wall with 5.1 surround. Could be more intense than the tent, since its about a quarter of the size. You will all be invited to the DVD release party at my place.

Create your own happiness.
