To be totally honest, love the lips, but this Christmas movie, I might watch it next Christmas again, but that'll be about it. Then maybe the next Christmas (Unless there's an amazing sequel!!) haha.. na I like the fact that they're having a go at making a movie, it's cool, but I'm looking forward to a new album.. the main art they kick ass at!! I liked the movie cos it was them. If it was a mate who put it together I'd be impressed. If I didn't know who was in it or anything about who was involved with it, I might have fallen asleep through it! But I was motivated to like it cos I really like the lips as a band. They're a creative, unique and funny bunch of characters!
At the end of the day I'm glad they made this movie, and I'm happy I bought it. The meaning at the end made it worth watching, I felt good about Christmas. Oh, and I liked the fucked up shit goin on in the movie, maybe I'll get the dvd out when I'm on acid next! haha

I'm giving it a 7.5 out of 10.

You start out not real impressed, but by the end of your post you're loving it. I think you just talked yourself into it. Anyway, the way to see this movie was in the Flaming Lips tent with the Flaming Lips sound system, not at home alone on a DVD with tinny television speakers.

7.5, I think is fair.

If I knew nothing of the lips, and suddenly stumbled across this movie out of the blue- I would be shocked and blown away. I'd immediately find out everything I could about the writer and director and want to learn how the heck this thing came into existence. I can't name one "thing" that is quite like this experience.

I just saw star trek- it's amazing how shallow and "re-hashed" that big budget movie is compared to this art house gem.

tent 10
dvd/theater 9

the fusion of sound and images is still striking and moving to me. it really holds up on repeat viewings. the tent was incredible, though, wish they would keep bringing it to festivals.

2, i think is fair.

I'm not a big fan of Clerks. Neither of a poor man's Clerks (even in space).

Not to sound like a pompous ass, which I realize I really I have no trouble with generally (so, no need to point it out...), and I do know most people never even had the opportunity, but if you didn't see the film in the Flaming Lips tent, you really shouldn't be rating the film at all, IMLTHO...

Tent, with intoxicants: 10
DVD: Eh, 7...

I was prepared for the worst....having seen the trailer, and read about it for years....

and I also took Wayne's advise and knocked back some of the best "spaceship" I have had in years.

It was the perfect combo: low expectations + massive space voyage = amazing first viewing.

I was truly floored at the first 10 minutes or so, to the point that I thought I wasn't going to be able to watch the whole thing, at least for a few more hours....

As you know it calms a bit, and I found myself amazed at what WC was able to do....sad at seeing Steven looking so fucking shitty. Otherwise generally found it hilarious.....the soundtrack was fantastic in 5.1 (yes I had the sound up to near painful volumes for maximum effect)

That has been the only time I watched it, so I give it a solid 9 out of 10

I decided I am going to save it for special yearly viewing, in a holiday party setting.

".....dizzying highs, crushing lows....I found Christmas on Mars to be the one holiday movie you can't possibly be too high for...."
