Im certain this will be unpopular but i don't care.

I appreciate & respect the future song request idea but ultimately... why can't the Lips themselves decide what older songs they would like to play.

If more obscure songs like EFL win, can they or will they ever play it live?

In my expereince the popular pick isn't always the right one & while it's a neat idea to give the fans a vote... i'd rather see what The Lips themselves would choose out of their older material rather than the fans.

Nice gesture from the guys, no doubt.

Or maybe the better idea would be to just play an older album live in it's entirety @ select shows/locations.

Sure... there are songs i'd live to see them play Live again but honestly just coming up with a select handfull is difficult & almost impossible to feel good about.

Especially if your picks don't get picked.

*picks nose*

Fuck man... there are some bigtime loyal fans here that should probablly have more of a say in the fan voting selections because they are the ones that actually follow/travel to see the band.

So... this isn't a knock on anyone or the band by any means.

I'll be happy to see any of the older material played live no matter my what my own personal votes would be.

*in my best Lebowski*

But this is just... like, my opinion, man.

WhatIvins.

I totally don't disagree.

Besides, the clear best choice (Lucifer Rising) has only received one vote so far, mine.

*feels lucky to've seen that one pulled off at least twice*

After seeing 2025, The Process, Mountainside, All We Have Is Now, Turn It On, Lightning Strikes The Postman, You Have To Be Joking, Love Yer Brain and What Is The Light in the last few years, I've come to the conclusion that I'd rather have them choose what to add because most were songs I wouldn't have thought of that ended up being absolutely perfect.

So of course they can decide for themselves, but I think it's a great gesture to ask what fans are interested in. I'm sure they will decide what works well out of the results rather than just trying to play something they weren't happy with because it won.

In the end I think the suggestion idea is fun and its nice to be have something to talk about, and the results are pretty interesting. I'd guess the majority of us are just happy to hear of different songs being added to the setlist no matter what they are.

You should vote, it's just for fun... (but really you should vote for One Million Billionth and Frogs Big Grin )

maybe the lips have a specific reason for doing this that we don't even know about?

then again, maybe it was just something they thought would amuse themselves and maybe us at the same time, and didn't anticipate that their fans would be dissecting every single action they ever take.

then again, they are artists and are used to being criticised by someone for everything they do, and everything they don't do, and everything they don't do anymore, and everything they might do in the future, and even everything they might not do in the future.

Totally!

This is definately an attention grabbing subject.

The end results no matter what the choices, will definately be intruiging.

I still think they should say fuck it & play IAPDA live in it's entirety Big Grin

I'd rob a bank & hurt little kids to see that Razz

Im just a skeptical person is all. Kinda like Larry David on acid.

I mean... whats the point of voting for something when you don't know if the results will/would be taken seriously.

Great idea for finding out what the fans want to hear but yeah... they'll be the ones making the final decision anyways.

I guess im just sour grapes becuz i really wanted to rob a bank & hurt a few little shitheaded snot nosed kids Frown

Probably because over the years on these boards people have been endlessly criticizing their setlist choices and saying they should play older songs or different songs. No matter what they decide to play there's always going to be the people who disagree with their picks so they're actually listening to what we, the fans, want to hear.

To me it sounds like you may not be in the majority with what everyone else wants to hear, but think that because you and a few others have been here longer your votes should hold more merit.

I think the course they're taking is what everyone has been asking for all along and I think it's great that they're actually taking the time to hear everyone out.

But that's just my opinion.

Well said sterling5587; How many posts are there with people saying they are fed up with Balloons/Confetti and the same songs they've heard many times before?

Even if it doesn't come off, it's great to be able to vote even if it's just a survey?

If there's always going to be people who disagree then why even bother even listening to what others want to hear. They know people are begging to hear more of the older material.

Kristen made a fabulous point in that the songs they chose to add to the set fit in perfectly with the show.

I could care less if "my picks" are chosen & thats what this will turn out to be.

Somebody bitching bcuz their favorite picks weren't chosen & the songs that were chosen off this site aren't up to somebody elses standards.

Theres already a thread about it (sorry Drock) Razz

Completely wrong.

Of course i have my own personal choices of what i would like to hear but....I'm just happy to hear the older material no matter what it will be.

& yes i do think that if they listen/see what the fans want to hear then they should listen to the fans that actually travel & see their shows on a regular basis.

Not some goofball on an internet message board who rarely see's them play live.

My concerns here are 2 fold.

1. Theres no way the band can please everyone with this & some songs just wouldn't fit in their current setlist (no matter how awesome that song would be). Not to mention... there may be some songs that they just wouldn't or maybe couldn't play Live.

2. & there will certainly be fans that won't be happy with the results of what other fans choose.

Ultimately... there's only 4 faces this egg could end up landing on.

Your post makes no sense. How else are they going to find out what the majority of their fans want to hear without a vote on forums about it. It's not like the "hardcore" fans who don't frequent the forums can telepathically send a message to Wayne letting him know what they want to hear.

You're the biggest goofball on these message boards and you know nothing about me or how often I've seen them live. Not that it matters but I've seen them every chance I've had; I've even travelled over 500 miles to see them. It's not like I just happened to find these forums by hearing the Flaming Lips play on a Kraft commercial and decided to scuttle on over here. Most of the people that post on these forums are pretty hardcore fans.
