This was the worst Flaming Lips show I have seen. How can Wayne promote peace when he is showing a video of a man kicking children in the head during Fight Test. The Children's Services Agency of Alabama will hopefully be contacting Wayne Cone and the City Stages Festival. Numerous small children attended this show and Wayne used the F-word too many times. If you don't believe me, then ask some of the security officers about it. One of them approached me and complained about it. City Stages is a music festival, but a family music festival and open to kids of all ages.

Actually,the birmingham show was amazing.
The F word is just a word,If you don't want your children to hear it then leave them at home until their old enough. BtwIts not really a "family music festival" they sell beer every 5 steps and your constantly surrounded by drunks.

I'm sorry if you brought your kids,But it was an excellent show for anyone who didn't have to worry about their kids.

I get that its a "family festival" and all, but the event coordinators knew what they were doing when they put the Lips as the latest slot possible on Sunday night. Almost 10pm for a start time featured on the Miller Light stage... any parent with little ones in the audience should have had plenty of fore warning what they were in for. I for one REALLY enjoyed their set... great job to the Flaming Lips: I hope they return to Birmingham sooner rather than later.

Are you just trying to provoke people? The Lips were certainly not the only performers at the festival to use profanity. Shoot Buddy Guy said "shit" many times and used sexually explicit lyrics throughout his set (which was also great - and was early Saturday evening when more kids would have been present). As for the Fight Test video, did you not see the end of the video where the toddlers beat the crap out of the man? It was freaking hilarious. To be offended by this is just silly. And how many times is "too many" to use profanity? It sure didn't seem pervasive to me - maybe 4 times total?

Well,
to make a long shitty story short ---

Alabama is a big shit hole.
The Flaming Lips are awesome.
City Stages is a terrible festival.

Poor performances all weekend.
That Galactic show was garbage.
The rappers make their live act really boring.
Get it together.

The Flaming Lips was awesome.
They changed the people on stage from Ninja's / Ironman to a bunch of Teletubbies.
They blurred out the naked images of the man and the women for "The Song That Remains the Same", and there were no naked dancers on stage.

The set list was standard.
They were playing well.

I saw a lot of big bright smiles on all the kids who were at their first flips show.

It was a beautiful night.

Very similar to Wakarusa except the blurred song remains the same video.

The naked lady gogo dancer thing wasn't blurred any more than it normally is really.

Pompeii was dedicated to Liz (lizardlips).

Liz and I were front row all day. Chairs+umbrella=WIN

Your children will learn the word "fuck" one of these days. They'll also probably fuck someone at some point. They experienced vagina first hand when they came out of it, and probably have had close interaction with their mother's tits at some point. Get the fuck over it. There were a couple of little kids who were dancing next to me for the Wailers and whose mother or whatever was obviously a fan. I really don't see the problem. Lighten the fuck up, people.

Some guy tried to give Wayne some pot in the hotel. Wayne respectfully declined and the guy gave it to me instead. Guess he thought I was with the lips due to my orange outfit and Steven shirt. Thanks guy, whoever you are.

A bunch of equipment broke right before the show. The lipstick cam, the lighting controls, and a smoke machine all broke. The crew were all a bunch of troopers and tried to fix it all, to no avail. I think the combination of Wakarusa's humidity and the heat in Birmingham was tough on the equipment.

There were sound problems all day, but I thought the lips sounded good.

Alabama seemed pretty nice.
The Flaming Lips ARE awesome.
City Stages is a really nice festival.
Yeah, Galactic and rappers is kind of boring. Galactic is proof that amazing musicians don't always make amazing music together.
There were amazing performances all weekend (Roots, Franti & spearhead, the wailers, Jon Mclaughlin, Diana ross, Buddy Guy, Al Green, Toubab Krewe, The Flaming Lips).

Teletubbies were at Wakarusa.

If you would have stayed with Liz and I at the Sheraton, you would have gotten to say hi to Wayne, hang out with Kliph for a little bit, and then briefly chat with Kliph, Steven, and Michael. Also, we sneaked backstage after the show only to be found out by a random lady checking credentials.

Got my Steven Christmas on Mars ticket signed, now I just need a Michael ticket.

Oh, and Blind Melon was great, I thought.

A couple of times, I could have sworn it was Shannon Hoon on stage.

the show was great! flaming lips performed well, and the word fuck is just a word. Razz ... the video with the kids is a hilarious video which has been on you tube for months. the ending is the best part where the kids beat up the dude. and yes as for the kids why would a parent if worried about their child hearing profanity have their kids at a lips concert? the lips are known to throw crazy concerts whether they curse or not. if i were worried about my child becoming corrupted then i wouldn't take them to the festival at all. Like the dude said, every few feet there is a beer stand plus everyone at the festival is drunk. Seems a lot more corrupting than a lips concert. Roll Eyes

The security staff work MANY bands in the Birmingham area throughout the year. The staff hears lots of profanity. I do not believe the security staff would have said anything if Wayne had not of crossed the line with the F word. Get-out of your own little "Flaming Lips" world, get off your drugs, and get in-touch with reality.

Hmmm, was that your first Flaming Lips show in the last few years?

Wayne says fuck a lot, and the fans say "Fuck Yeah!".

That's just how it goes

He didn't say the word more than normal for a concert. They actually toned down some parts of the show as I stated in my above post.

They are numbered by showing, but the pictures are each of the four large posters that they hang outsdie the CoM tent.

1&2 were sasquatch. 3,4,5, and 6 were Wakarusa (Kliph, Wayne, Steven, and Michael respectively)

I'm not sure how many Bonnaroo showings there were, but I'm guessing they went in order.

Apparently Michelle went through the airport with a huge stack of these blotter paper tickets (buy the ticket, take the ride) and didn't get hassled by TSA at all. My halfway wookie lookin' ass gets stopped and asked to take off my shoes even when I'm wearing flip-flops.

I thought this was just made up.. until I went back and looked ('Fight Test' is one of the few songs I actually viddied...)

And though the quality isn't perfect, I'll be damned if there actually isn't probably some kid kicking going on behind them.

Go fig.

I think they've been using that video for a little while now. I know it was used at Wakarusa, and I think it is older than that.

Guy fights kids. Guy whups their asses. Kids fight back concertedly and win.
