Why in the name of god can you not get a day ticket just to see the lips at the festival, 240 is a hellava price to pay for the best band there! It would actually be cheaper to fly to england to see them there if they tour, thats what i will do..hopefully SmileIrish fans should get a petition together to get them to play Millstreet!!!!!!!!

Because that'll work.

Electric Picnic looks like it's going to be a great festival anyway, it'd be well worth the 240 quid!

I was so disappointed...

Enthusiasm was INCREDIBLY GOOD, as was Pompeii, and the two new songs (Convinced Of The Hex and another one which I didn't know) were great to hear, but everything else... I've seen it all six times, at every gig I've been to!

I really never thought I'd be so disappointed with a Lips show, but wow...

It must get awfully empty-feeling to open every show for ten years with Race For The Prize? To sing Do You Realize every night? To croon Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots in a hammy singalong? To never explore anything before The Soft Bulletin, and at that, barely touch it?

Is it because it was a festival slot, or because the band isn't as well-known in Ireland, that they thought it mightn't be smart to playing anything left-of-centre?

I've never seen another band so reluctant to go back in time. And everytime I've read these rants on this bored, I've rolled my eyes and thought it was just someone being unrealistic, but maybe it is real? Feel free to roll your eyes and tell me I'm unrealistic.

I really don't mean to offend anyone, if Kliph or anyone else reads this. So I'm sorry I guess.

I thought the songs they played they played very well(the yeah yeah yeah song was great)But with the exception of the two new and Enthuiasm Ive heard them all numerious times before. The new intro was great by the way.But ive got to agree with EL PrOn Here

"It must get awfully empty-feeling to open every show for ten years with Race For The Prize? To sing Do You Realize every night? To croon Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots in a hammy singalong? To never explore anything before The Soft Bulletin, and at that, barely touch it?"

Things as special as do you realize start to lose their specialness when your guarinteed to hear it last song in the set every time you see them.

"I've never seen another band so reluctant to go back in time. And everytime I've read these rants on this bored, I've rolled my eyes and thought it was just someone being unrealistic, but maybe it is real? Feel free to roll your eyes and tell me I'm unrealistic."

I dont think your unrealistic,I feel as fustrated as you,I mean aside from mountainside and jelly(which didnt even get played this time but no matter cos Ive heard them before)Ive never heard anything pre soft bulletin except turn it on and I had to go to Oklahoma for that.

I dont mean to moan either but when you go to see one of your favourite bands whenever you can and they play pretty much the same set every time,your(i.e.my)enthusism for them starts to Wayne.

Peace

I was working at the Picnic and missed the Lips...only the second time I've missed an Irish appearance since 1996. So close and yet so far away. Mad

Pissed off I missed "Enthusiasm.." and the new stuff, but not overly dismayed at missing the show as I could run through it in my minds eye from beginning to end...which shouldn't be the case for your all-time favourite band. I can't believe they are still doing that time-wasting Yoshimi singalong!

It's because for every one person at a Flaming Lips show who wants to see them play old stuff, there are 100 rabid screaming fans who are there to see them play Do You Realize, Jelly, and Yoshimi. This has been discussed many times on these boards and the band has done what they can to incorporate our (the forum lurkers) wishes by playing shit like Enthusiasm and Bad Days, and still appeal to the vast majority of their fans. I've seen them 4 times now and have immensely enjoyed every show. The songs are great, but what keeps me going back to see them over and over again is the energy they ignite in people and that warm fuzzy feeling I get inside Smile

And seriously... you can't say other bands don't do the same thing, you just haven't seen other bands 5+ times like you have the Lips. Every band has their staple songs and then a few old and new songs that they rotate in. I hate when people complain about the effort the Lips put into their shows when it is painfully obvious that they work harder at it than ANY other band out there.

You're just spoiled by them... that is all.

The Yoshimi singalong is painful at this stage. I really don't know what Wayne thinks he's doing with those five minutes.
