I've been looking at a lot of the footage shot over the fall tour this year. I decided to make one thread for all the stuff I will be posting from here on out.

This way it will be easier for new people to find a lot of different live material I post, rather than searching through all of live lips.

I am also working on getting YouTube compression down. YouTube can make the best looking video, look like crap. Even though I swore off Youtube in a rage last year, I have since created a new account.

All my YouTube stuff can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/dincstudiosf

I have been reading about some Compressor2 settings that I think will improve the YouTube experience slightly. I am trying it on the Mt. Side clip from Seattle right now and will upload it later tonight.

Also a big thank you to Bill Berly for the use of his web server.

There are some great files here:
http://billeberly.com/drock/

As long as I still get to use it I will. I thought it might be cool to upload a whole DVD there. Keep it up only for a couple of days. That way the people who refuse to learn bit torrent will get a copy. People who are good with bit torrent will then be able to all seed at once. The rest of the torrent community will get it faster. Win Win. If I delete it soon enough we shouldn't run over Bill's bandwidth limit.

I guess I'm pretty bummed that I can't make it to New Years. This is my way of staying in touch. I really hope someone at least tapes the audio.

Aren't there any other Lips tapers?

thankfully there were some back in the day and a lot is coming to light lately. if you read the "known Lips recordings" file it is amazing how many shows do exist on tape

I'll post a recent short taper story in the Clutch Cargo's thread...

one thing I would like to see is a nice clip of "Moonlight Mile" only from the Echo project. Perhaps the last one of the 'summer' and a gorgeous one. I have the Seattle video, don't really need another whole show on video, but would like to see that again.

Come to think of it, I haven't looked at the site that streamed that show and DFest - have their plans to sell hi-quality streams later worked out? I'd support them with a purchase of the Echo stream if I can yet...

also Drock, the other day on Trader's Den I noticed an old no-longer seeded Lips torrent, a video torrent, that combined the 1.24.04 'Big Day Out' (Sydney, Australia) with another Lips set from the same era. I've had part of that set as an audio-only FM for a long time and it is one of my more listened to Lips recordings. Any chance you might have that and could help get that re-seeded somewhere?

That was one of my very early releases. It was called 21st Century Lips. It had Big Day Out, T In The Park 2003, Glastonbury 2003, and The JD Set from 2004. It was also seeded over at Pure Live Gigs. Try to get someone else to re-seed it. If it doesn't work out let me know.

I'll re-examine the Echo project footage. If I post that on You Tube IClips might have it pulled.

Two new videos posted on YouTube:

Mt. Side from Seattle
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaCTlpWy8yI

and Elizabeth's interview with Wayne post Seattle show. He answers these 3 questions:

- How come Spoonful was on the set list for the last 8 shows but not played?

- Are the Flaming Lips touring in 2008

- Any chance you'll do shows and change the set list from night to night.

I just came back to note that I discovered it on PureLiveGigs, not Trader's. I'm just starting out there...I'll make it more of a long-term project. I'd love to see the video of Golden Path.

iClips.net doesn't seem to be selling anything at all yet.

from Echo they'll let you see Race For the Prize, Tapsmir, and Free Radicals right now, but only those three. I'll just lay on back and watch them work until the Moonlight Mile is available from them.

they do have Stardeath & White Dwarf from DFest though...

Well I won't post IClips on YouTube but I put it up here:

www.billeberly.com/drock

I have converted it to a format that should play on any version of quicktime.

Also you are looking for this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMp-RTlC4rM

As fas as I know it was the only time the Lips perfomred Golden Path on their own. All the other times it was part of the Chemical Bros set, but on Jan 24th 2004 it was all them.

wow, thanks man!

the Echo clip will probably get me to finally pick up QuickTime Pro to save it for the future. beautiful.

I'm ending up with a Moonlight Mile collection...picked up Sticky Fingers with a new iTunes gift card, and another cover of it, I wanna figure out my favorite Lips version.

I saw a Golden Path on YouTube with Wayne singing it for the Chemical Bros., I'm surprised I never saw that one.

poking around db.etree reveals several shows in the fall of '03 featuring a Lips Golden Path.

The Flaming Lips perform Five Stop Mother Superior Rain at The Water Palace in Norman OK on Jan 28th 1995. A rare night. They performed a Priest Driven Ambulance in it's entirety and in order.

Taper is unknown. I wish I knew. If you know who recorded this please contact me.

Pretty rare. I'm not sure how many times this song was played but it is the only Five Stop Mother Superior Rain on YouTube. Except for some guys cover band.

yes, thanks again for that. I haven't tried copying it over to the iPod but I assume it is in such a nice .mp4 file already this shouldn't be a problem.

but lots of other odd video files, like frex the episode of In The Attic with the Lips, won't play on my 80gig classic iPod, even after letting iTunes do a "Convert for iPod". so I was wondering if I could get your opinion on how to do this. since I don't have a TV the iPod could be a great way for me to watch the occasional thing I wanna watch.

I found this article on three iPod video converters:

http://consumerguidesblog.com/top3dvdtoipodconverter.html

I was wondering if I could get your opinion on which one might be best to use. QT Pro isn't in there but I would hope Apple's main video software would be able to do this as well? I don't necessarily just want to rip DVDs, I also hope to be able to massage any video file into something useable by the iPod.

I also presume YouTube clips will most likely never be useable on a pod?

I don't actually have an opinion on that. I don't own a video IPod and don't make videos for them.

There is a way to get videos off youtube but I have no idea if it is easy to put on an Ipod.

Take the time to properly install all the codecs and then use how to learn MPEG StreamClip. This is for mac.

If you are using a PC, I can't help you. No one can.

Well maybe God could help you with a PC, but I think he uses Linux.

Use this to get video off of YouTube:
http://keepvid.com/

I really try to avoid any technical discussion besides real basic help. There are other forums for learning hot to get DVDs on to your Ipod.

thanks man, just some real basic help to get started helps a lot. I try and do the same with audio questions, and I'm far from an expert on those but I at least know where to look.

that moonlight mile clip fits in awesomely with my slowly developing moonlight mile project. I picked up one of the JGB versions, and found another one that can be eliminated from consideration (very poor source). I'll keep working on those until I decide on which is quintessential. I also picked up a copy of Sticky Fingers from iTunes Plus to replace my decades old cassette.

The countdown, balloon drop, and Race For The Prize at the New Years Eve Eve show. Though this show was on Dec. 30th 2006 the Lips treated it like it was New Years Eve.

In comparison to the next night in L.A. this show was way better.

Wayne said afterwards that it was the most balloons he had ever seen in one place.

This is great! Smile

You cut-off "long-winded Wayne", though! Will we get to see the rest?

The only other part of the interview was about this new years show. Since it is now out dayed I didn't want to include it on You Tube.

You can view it here:
http://billeberly.com/drock/Wayne%20Interview%20NYE%2008.mov

You'll see two minor edits. He ripped a little on the organizers of the NYE event, and I don't think Wayne would have wanted that in general circulation
