Hey Jesus Egg, if you like Steely Dan, you ought to check out The High Llamas if you haven't. They're not a carbon copy by any means, but they do share some similar sensibilities. Imagine if Steely Dan and Stereolab had a bastard child who was actually raised by The Beach Boys, and you'll start to get the idea. They're that good too! Recommend either Snowbug or Cold And Bouncy, and Can Cladders was my top album of 2007.

I really like Of Montreal. Saw them at Lolla '06 and at the time hadn't heard any of their music. Great show, and really nice guys. Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer is an excellent album.

So there all you Of Montreal haters! *sticks out tongue*

1. The original Mothers of Invention
2. All the subsequent incarnations of the Mothers of Invention
3. Frank Zappa's 1981 band
4. Frank Zappa's 1988 band
5. Frank Zappa and his computer (the Synclavier)

I also love everyone else's choices (shout outs to Stereolab, Luke Vibert, Ween, and Pink Floyd), but I could only choose five.
