It will have Steven Drozd on it = it will be good.

drozd was on mystics, and mystics was borderline good...i LOVE the lips but they really need to turn out something very different from mystics to regain their yoshimi/bulletin/clouds respect.... and maybe kick up their next tour to being mostly live music

If they didn't make a move away from Clouds Taste Metallic, we wouldn't have ever heard The Soft Bulletin, and so on. So At War With The Mystics was another move in a new direction, and any album with My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion, Pompeii am Gotterdammerung, and Free Radicals is FAR beyond "borderline good".

They've already enjoyed their "Yoshimi/Bulletin/Clouds respect", and they made another move away from the previous album with At War With The Mystics. So the next album will be another move in another direction. How can a band 'lose respect' by trying different things? It's been said before, I know, but not enough bands do different things.

As for the "mostly live music" thing, what's wrong with the backing tracks? They open up so much new ground to be covered, and so many new possibilities. If they had an orchestra backing them, do you think Race For The Prize would rock as hard as it does? I don't.

But opinions differ.

i mean i want to hear live music at a concert...thats just me, if they had an orchestra backing for race for the prize it would be fucking EPIC, last time i saw them the audio wasnt great and it was pretty easy to tell that most of the music was pre-recorded... as for awwtm, it was definetly a new sound for them but it came off to me as an obvious attempt to be more mainstream (thats just my opinion) there are great tracks but as a whole album i think its borderline good

We will all get it no matter how good it sounds, because we love the Lips. And how in the hell could those guys disappoint? Even if we all like some albums less than others, I'd be surprised if people disliked every part of an entire Lips album...they're all so diverse and so amazing.

I dig...I was wishing that they would do some big band deal at their live shows like Sufjan Stevens, Bright Eyes, or the Polyphonic Spree, when I first saw Lips clips on youtube, but then I watched UFO's at the Zoo. And that kind of changed my perspective. While it would certainly still be cool to have people playing everything, I dunno how it would fit into the Lips' style. It WAS Wayne who said that if he had to play one instrument, it would be the recording studio.

As much as the music sounds like it, it's not 1982 anymore.

Why the fuck would i want OTHER people to play MY music. I don't want Captain Waffles Fucking Orchestra backing me up when i have the software to do it all on my own.

Hah! I got it, Green Flips. Smile And I see your point about synthesizing. I think it would benefit the Lips' live show if they added a keyboard player. I think the backing tapes make the songs too rigid/predictable/samey. I think a keyboardist would allow for a lot more freedom, especially for Steven. That video of the Rock Honors rehearsal showed how great the Lips can be without backing tapes.
