He sang a little song. :-)
One line was "Roger Daltry/you handsome fuck/sixty-(whatever) years old and built like a truck"

What else would he say? 'You handsome duck?'

Watched most of it.

Caught the Lips. They brought TONS of energy to their performance, which was refreshing after *gag* Incubus.

The Who themselves were great.

I thought the Lips were great but the rest of the bands got showed up by some comedic acts i.e. Tenacious D and Adam Sadler. The Who were classic

Geez... I noticed that!
Seemed like I was rocking out on my couch harder than most of them who were there in the audience!

Yeah, what was WITH the crowd? I watched it on tape, I was working...didn't pay attention to Foo Fighters, skipped Incubus, LOVED the Lips...I agree, they sounded REALLY tight and the crowd seemed to offer their most excitement for their medley. LOVED Kliph and Steven at the end.

The Who were awesome too...I had to chuckle a little when Pete Townsend sang his part in Baba O'Riley...he really doesn't have too much of a singing voice left. But MAN can they put on a show. Loved their set.

Very cool evening...I'm really glad that VH1 found the time to stop airing their shit reality shows and nostalgia hours to air a tribute to real, honest, good music.

Those folks on camera coughed up a lot of dough for those seats and they were standing... you want them to MOVE too?

In all seriousness, there are a lot of factors here: How can you really tell what people were like given that the sound mix was edited?

It's LA... so uhhh... yeah

It never really felt like a "concert." There was a lot of down time.

Most people were not familiar with/fans of all the bands. The Lips especially were a little out there for that crowd's comfort zone.

The show was dedicated to a band that is... well... old.

If you've got $750 to spend on a 45 minute set you're probably not you're average kids who go crazy at shows.

A reasonable music fan (not James) would have skipped this show for say... oh I don't know... the actual tour dates that were announced a few days before this show took place.

So there ya go.

I only wish they invited PETRA HYDEN to the party!
She's taken "Sell Out" on the road, and she 'brings it', as the kids would say.

Would've been a nice change of pace...

But, that's me.

Seconded.

It looks great, but it didn't sound good...? I hope it was just the crappy TV broadcast dynamics.
