FLOYD are the godfathers of that bands who play wonderful music...

Yes they are indeed. The pioneers of "art rock", whici is what the Lips are, and why Wayne during the Q and A session before the concert listed Syd Barrett and Miles Davis as his top two artist to work with, dead or alive.

Check out this killer BBC video which shows a bit of just how Syd and Floyd changed music:

To the poster who mentioend "Mothers of Invention", I would say there is waaay more Lips in "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play" They are that quirky, edgy psych template which dominate the, "She Don't Use Jelly", "Soft Bulletin" and "Yohsimi". Both of those tracks were released before Sgt. Peppers.

Syd did the dark experimental trippy stuff and the quirky, animal type psych the Lips love. See "Effervecscing Elephant", which is a gigantic influence and straight out of "Christmas at the Zoo":

Confused Zaireeka/Soft Bulletin is more Pet Sounds than Dark Side. Razz

I've always thought a Zappa/Mothers of Invention comparison is much better than a Pink Floyd comparison. There are other bands that deserve the PF thing that the FLips…

MMM... I am fairly certain zaireeka and soft bulletin have some heavy pink floyd references.

MMM... I am fairly certain this is all in the eye of the beholder.

thats barrett not floyd.

floyd to me starts when barrett leaves.

they make enjoyable music but it is mostly drab and kind of boring. listening to wallpaper dry.

yet i love eno and tony conrad and other stuff that fits in. I dont like floyds production or sound post barrett.

They are very talented and put out somewhat interesting stuff.

beefheart is just better.

Looks to be a mash up of weeping Christaloon children from Jesus Camp and a well-placed raptor head.

I hope they put their stamp all over this, and take it off in some interesting and worthy directions. 'Not too interested in hearing an nearly exact copy...

Thanks to Mr. Mod for posting that taste of Dark Side... although, nothing too wild or original in their version of Eclipse.

I gotta say, after Easy Star's DUB Side of the Moon, all attempts at re-imagining this album are likely to fall short. The original is great and the dub-reggae version just seems to work perfectly. I'll gladly fork over my money to check out the Lips version... but I'm not getting too excited.

**agreed**

I am excited. SDWD are really a bad ass band. Their sound has grown in the past couple of years, and they have really found their own.
Or so I think JMO.
Their Album is outstanding. And with teaming up with the lips this has the possibility of being unreal.

Dark Side Of The Moon is one of the most overrated albums of all time imo

Totally fucking boring.

I'm completely uninterested in this project.

I can only imagine how horrible this is going to be & I'll be shocked if this has any real value.

No, not @ all.

[<Mbryoni( is what i expect from the band. I always expect greatness from this band.

So with that in mind... this project will be underwhelming.
