The Flaming Lips have already recorded a follow-up to “Embryonic.” The band will release a track-by-track interpretation of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” in the near future, which it recorded with Stardeath and the White Dwarfs, a band that features Coyne’s nephew Dennis.

Henry Rollins and Peaches make guest appearances on the album, Coyne told the crowd during a pre-concert question-and-answer session. A Flaming Lips spokesman says the album will likely be an iTunes-only release, at least initially.

It means the confetti and backing tracks and circus show will continue on into infinity forever. I was hoping for a change in the live presentation of the music to commemorate the release of the new album.

Gotcha. I was just confused by your use of the term "old" Lips show, which I assumed would refer to pre-Zaireeka Lips shows.

And by "old," I think I also meant "tired."

This REALLY excites me. I've always said that if there was one band I'd love to hear cover DSOM, it would be the Lips. My dreams have come true!!!

Maybe I'm missing something...

Gone were the confetti machines, and nowhere on stage was anyone dressed as Santa Claus. Giant metallic spaceships didn’t descend from the ceiling, and if fake blood and puppets were present, they stayed safely tucked away backstage.

I would LOVE this. I'm not a big fan of Madonna, but if Star Death and White Dwarfs with the Lips can make Borderline way out there, DSOTM will be mind-blowing!

its a pretty boring album overall but I guess it has its moments.

I mean it is ok. It just doesnt feel that dynamic.

Its like the flaming lips take pieces of pink floyd and turn it into something wonderful. they have been doing it for 25 years now.

I listen to floyd and just feel bored. Its not bad music its just kind of boring. (Im talking dark side of the moon here I love a lot of the other stuff)

Its funny cause I love zaireeka and soft bulletin which lets be honest...its floyd but I just love it so much more.

I think I prefer king crimson or robery wyatt more than pink floyd (in the 1973-1976 era for floyd I would just rather listen to king crimson or robery wyatt or bowie)

I dont know what I am missing when I listen to it but it just feels tepid when I listen to it. I recognize what is good about it I am just not moved by it.

Confused Zaireeka/Soft Bulletin is more Pet Sounds than Dark Side. Razz

I've always thought a Zappa/Mothers of Invention comparison is much better than a Pink Floyd comparison. There are other bands that deserve the PF thing that the FLips…

MMM... I am fairly certain zaireeka and soft bulletin have some heavy pink floyd references.
