I'd probably say Hit to Death. Just doesn't do anything for me, really. There are a few good sections/riffs - Halloween on the Barbary Coast for example, but as a whole I pretty much hardly ever listen to it.

Depends when you started listening to the flaming lips. The first album I ever got of theirs was Hit to death, back in the Transmissions era. I heard most of their early ones before the Soft Bulliten came out, so when that one came out I was like ah, a little different for the lips but still awesome. Then Yoshimi came out and it just sounded like pure techno. There were a handful of standouts like Do you realize, fight test, yoshimi etc. But it just didn't sound like the flaming lips. Not saying it sucks, just saying I don't like most of it. Then I heard AWWTM and it completely blew me away. Sounds like Hit to Death meets Soft Bulliten

It's just too...sleepy for me. There are gems on it, for sure. But I wouldn't listen to it on a road trip.

O gosh you got that one right. I had my iPod doing "play all" for the Lips on the way back from somewhere here recently and Doug has NEVER once acting like he was about to fall asleep while driving CEPT when that album came on.

lol along with Radiohead's Kid A and U2's The Joshua Tree, Yoshimi is an album i sometimes put on when i go to bed.

AmorphousForm, I am with you man. I don't get all the hate I think its a great original record and to me, seems to flow into the natural evolution of their sound. I will admit at first listen, I wasn't to impressed but I never am on a first listen (since I have gotten older at least). But AWWTM really grew on me. I would plays Worms on my XBOX360 and listen to it and pretend the worms were singing the "Yeah Yeah Yeahs" on said song. To me though its a great summer album and "Vein of Stars" is great to listen to when star gazing. At D-fest I caught myself looking into the sky during that song more than looking at the stage last year.

yeah after being surrounded by 10000 lasers for probably the most epic moment of my life this past new years vein of stars took on a new meaning. all of them, especially the ones that i saw live (yeah yeah yeah, free radicals, vein, wand, pompeii) are incredible. it has me even more pumped for whenever the next album and tour is.

a lot of people seem to not like telepathic surgery either, its an album way before my time but i think its great too

For me, their worst album is titled Yoshimi Battle The Pink Robots. Whoever said Mystics sounds like Hit To Death making love to the Soft Bulletin is right on.
