You're right. It doesn't matter how long I've been listening to the band, or how many of their albums I own, or how many concerts I've been to, or even what kind of personal feelings I have about the music.

The fact that I want them to actually be successful and make a decent living at what they do makes me less of a fan than some high-and-mighty punk who just joined the board a month ago and wants to pretend that the bands he likes are all obscure and underground, even though he listens to one of the most popular "independent" music acts of the last 10 years who once appeared on 90210 (never mind the fact that the two sources linked to in this thread are ACTUAL MEMBERS/COLLABORATORS OF THE BAND whose financial security depends directly on the group's popular success).

Sorry if I'm a little bitchy. I'm tired and want to go home but have to stick around at school for parent-teacher conferences for another 15 minutes, and I have little tolerance for stuck-up douchebaggery right now.

Ha! I forgot about that guy. I hope he's having a nice day. He seemed unhappy.

Yes, that's correct.

Don't worry, that's why they sell their songs to commercials.

Let me talk to your kid's teacher. I'll let her know what time it is.

I can't believe they sold more copies than just the three I bought. Fucking sell outs.

Congratulations to the Flaming Lips!
(For some long time fans this can feel like our “success” as well)

I kind of expected this.(seeing how the music industry operates nowadays combined with the Lips ever-growing cult and the pre-release response to Embryonic), but it’s still surreal seeing the Lips placed in the context of the other top sellers (Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey etc).
The obvious next question is: will it stay high in the chart… or is it destined to sink down (since all the core fans have already bought it… or were too pre-occupied with the MOFS)?
As pointed out in my initial post, Wilco actually went up after their debut. Any chance of that happening here?

Yeah, #51.
But considering Yoshimi (peaking just one spot higher) and Mystics are the only previous albums to get higher, even 51 is relatively high for a Lips' release. And even though it dropped 43 spots, that's not that big a drop for an album that fit oddly in the top ten in the first place (i.e. not Michael Buble).
