I agree 100% Soft Bulletin was their last great album. I grew up on their early albums. Oh My Gawd and In A Priest Driven Ambulance being my favorites but the first time I got to see them live was the Hit to Death tour. I was 17 and underage. I got in due to a favor of the owner of the club "bar" "It was Nothing Short of Amazing"!!!!!!!!1

Rock on..."BWAP, BWAP"!!!!!!!! Big Grin

Well, if there is a list out there somewhere which contains the names of everybody that does listen to it, you can add Uncle Mikey to that list.

I may be speaking a bit prematurely here, but I think Embryonic may rank among their "great albums." It's certainly the best thing they've done in the 2000s.

They Flaming Lips know how to close out a decade.

It was the first Lips album I heard/bought (after reading a stellar review in Melody Maker) so it's always been special to me.

It's one of those albums that has to be played right through, every song is brilliantly written and the sequencing is perfect.

listened to it on repeat for literally three months.
In case you dont get the point from us, I think most lips fans actually do like this album.
maybe we just ?psychically? agree it is pretty awesome and just know we don't need to talk about it.

Even the hidden track? I think the furthest I've ever gotten in that is five minutes.

I listened to the whole thing, in the car, driving home from Chicago. I think I started hallucinating at one point. In retrospect, that probably was a bad idea.

Nah, five seconds is all I can take of that! I always make sure to get up and switch the cd off after Hold Your Head.

definitely one of the best psych damage albums ever. i remember waiting what seemed an eternity for it to come out-the guy at the record store would just automatically say "nope, not today" every time i went in. obviously well before the get-it-now-ness of the internet. romantic, noisy, violent and completely fucked up. probably my favorite album by damn near anyone, it always sounds fresh and demanding.

The opening track and "Gingerale Afternoon" should have broken the band back in '92. AMAZING stuff. Also love "Felt Good to Burn".

They need to remaster and release on vinyl or maybe mix in 5.1, cobble together a bunch of era video footage, and put out a DVD. It is definitely a CLASSIC.

So, yeah, the Dingus tracks...I reckon "Gingerale Afternoon", and "The Sun" are his. Maybe some vocals on "Hold Your Head" and "Felt Good to Burn"?

Haven't got the album to hand, and never really tried to work it out before so I could be mad wrong.

I am pretty sure "The Sun" is Wayne, but you are spot-on with the other tracks, 'licker.

I honestly think that if Warner Bros. remastered and reissued Hit to Death, Transmissions and Clouds AND ADVERTISE THEM, they could sell pretty well.

If I remember correctly, Kliph has said that WB was going to reissue Hit to Death on vinyl a year or two ago, but they canceled the project when they couldn't find the artwork. A damn fucking shame.

On further inspection it sounds like they're both on vocal duties.

Love the album. Love the way it sounds. I don't feel it needs to be remastered at all.
